shiver is a short-video app for horizontal videos in 16:9 format. Not upright, but sideways, deliberately and exclusively. Users upload their own videos, follow other profiles, comment, like and discover new content through a feed that follows actual viewing behaviour. shiver is developed and operated by Zest UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Tittmoning, Germany.
Why landscape instead of portrait
Portrait format prevailed because it matches the way a phone is held, not because it does the content any good. Landscapes, sport, concerts, workshop and kitchen footage, anything that shows more than a face in the middle, loses half of its picture content in a 9:16 crop. shiver turns this around: the device is turned sideways once, and the video fills the screen in the aspect ratio in which it was recorded.
This decision runs through the entire app. The device stays in landscape, playback fills the screen, you swipe up and down to move between clips, and uploads that are not in landscape format are detected during upload and handled accordingly. There is no automatic crop that turns a landscape video into a portrait one.
Who shiver is for
- People who record with a camera, an action cam or a drone and do not want to crop their footage to a portrait format.
- Sport, outdoors, motorsport, music, crafts, model making, cooking: anything where the width of the image is part of the information.
- Viewers who want to watch short videos without an advertising network reading along.
The minimum age for use is 18 years. Details are set out in the Terms of Use and on the Child Safety page.

- Profiles, follows, likes, comments and hashtags for topic search.
- Direct messages between user accounts.
- Reporting and blocking on every video, every comment and every profile.
- Account deletion inside the app under Settings → Delete account, without having to go through support.
What shiver does not do
shiver contains no analytics SDK, no advertising IDs and no third-party tracking. The GPS location of the device is not accessed. We process the data required to operate the service: account data, content and usage events such as playback duration, which feed into the ordering of the feed. The full list is set out in the privacy policy. Backend, database and video storage are hosted with Supabase in the EU region Ireland.
